Church St School, Beeston - Boys - about 1918
|
2nd Row Down, 6th from the left is Arthur Jack Meakin, known as Jack to the family. He was born in Nottingham in 1908
and lived in and around Nottingham until he was about 8 years of age. He came to Beeston with his family when his father
became manager of Eastmans the butchers (later to become Dewhursts) at 69 High Road Beeston. The family, which consisted
of his father Arthur John Taylor Meakin mother Lillie Kate, and elder sister Edna Josephine, lived behind and above the shop.
He left school to work for his father in the shop until his fathers death in 1928 when, for a short time the family moved
back to Nottingham. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Dennis Ave Beeston. Jack continued to work in Nottingham for the same
firm before getting his own shop to manage at High St, Long Eaton were he stayed for the rest of his working life.
On the right is the Head Teacher, John Riley
