From a clipping kindly provided by Jan Goodman who has also pointed out her mother, then Doris Alma Brown (3rd row from front, 9th from left). Doris was born in Beeston on 16 June 1908. the daughter of Henry (known as Harry) Brown and his wife Harriet
(née Priestley). Harry had served as a regular in the Royal Field Artillery from 1891 to 1902, in India and in the Boer War, including the siege of Ladysmith. As a Reservist, he went on to serve throughout the Great War. In 1911, the family was
living at 37 Station Road, Beeston with Harry working as a fitter at an iron foundry, probably then at the nearby Foster & Pearsons site but later at its successor Beeston Boiler Company. He is also known to have worked for the Beeston Fire Brigade and,
perhaps for that reason, the family moved to live at 28 Stoney Street, near to the fire station. In June 1932, she married Arthur Wakefield, part of a Beeston family painting and decorating business. By 1939, they had made their home at 99 Wollaton Road,
Beeston. She died in November 1997, aged 89.
