Roundhill School, Beeston - Christmas 1953
|
Pupils at Roundhill Junior School enjoying a Chrismas dinner in December 1953. The school had opened in 1950 and, earlier in 1953, Mr
V T Crompton had taken over as its head master. The Christmas dinner was taken by 200 pupils in the school dining room, after the roast
turkey had been piped in by the school's prize recorder band. The pupils, most of whom were in fancy dress, sang a carol, written by the
head teacher, and wished all the staff a Happy Chrismas. Shown first in the queue is Ann Kirkwood (later Hughes) while Mr J Elkin (botany
teacher at the school) carves the turkey.
The photograph, which appeared in the Nottingham Journal, was kindly supplied by Dave and Julie Bullock, on behalf of their friend, Ann's
husband, Brian Hughes
