In the 1930s, when these photographs were taken, Sunday Schools and church family life were the norm for many children and young people and the outings and social get-to-gethers that they offered were greatly enjoyed at a time
when travel outside their home environment was limited. This collection of photographs from the family of Hiram Firth who were prominent members of the Baptist Church in Beeston and certainly appear to confirm thet they were

This photograph, dated 1931, shows a happy scene of a Baptist church group of members and their children on an outing, apparently enjoying their picnic lunch. Seated on the left-hand side is Hiram's wife Alice with their daughter Mary,
aged 7, on the front, left hand side. Her brother David, then aged 9, is on the right-hand side.
This photograph, dated 1935, shows a coach, about to carry a group of Baptist Sunday School children on an outing to Dovedale, in Derbyshire. Mary Firth is standing on the front row, on the right of the boy in a blazer, in the centre.
Comfy Buses, who provided the transportation for the day, was a small family bus company that was based on Middle Street, Beeston. Click HERE to read more.
