General Notes (Husband)

Although it is known (from his marriage record) that the father of Edward (b. c1853) was Edward SMITH, he has not yet been identified absolutely.

It is, however, likely that he was Edward SMITH, b. c1828 in Nottingham who is believed to have married Mary Ann STAPLETON, St Nicholas Church, Nottingham, 10 Dec 1850.

This assumption has been tentatively accepted as it fits all known facts except that it does depend on accepting that Edward was born in Sneinton - as recorded in 1861 and 1871, rather than St Marys Parish, Nottingham - where the family did live for much of the time and where Edward said he had been born in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census)
