The Family of William Jowett (1830-1856)

William Jowett from Beeston, Nottinghamshire, enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers on January 8th 1847, fought in the Crimean War, was wounded and died later in hospital. His diary, which vividly describes his experiences during that time, was published after his death.

He was one of four men from Beeston who died as a result of the Crimean campaign, each of whom is remembered on the unusual war memorial which survives in Beeston churchyard.
