• Occupation: tailor and draper, at the time of the census in April 1891. ³¹⁴ He was then living with his wife and one of their daughters at Top of Village, Cosby, Leics. Another daughter was staying with her Aunt Emma..

• Occupation: clothier dealer, at the time of the census in March 1901. ³¹⁵ He was then living with his wife and one of their daughters at Fern Bank, Cosby, Leics. Another daughter was a a girls' boarding school in Eastbourne, Sussex.

John married Lucy Bunning, daughter of Samuel Bunning and Caroline Gee, Q2 1878 in Kettering Registration District, Northants.²⁸⁴ (Lucy Bunning was born Q1 1855 in Cosby, Leics ^{285,286,287,288,289,290} and was baptised on 30 Apr 1855 in Cosby, Leics ²⁹¹.)
