Smith Rev. Mr. Scotch Church, Residence : Piedras y Rivadavia, Notes : Dr James Smith, D.D.

See : http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jnth/structure/StJintro.shtmll for info on St Johns Church, Buenos Aires where Francis Smith was Priest in Charge from late in 1871 to April 1885

"The Rev. Francis Smith arrived to take over St John's Church, Buenos Aires, immediately following the severe epidemic of yellow fever in Buenos Aires in the autumn of 1871. The Rev. Francis Neville Lett continued to act as his assistant for the following seven years, before moving to Rosario.
Francis Smith's handwriting gives us today a whole series of headaches. He was an assiduous keeper of records, and the Cathedral archives contain a number of registers that he copied from the originals. For that we can be grateful.
However, it is clear that he wrote very quickly, and at times with loose and imprecise letter formation. As a result, interpreting his writing now can sometimes be very difficult.
To interpret what Smith has written, it has helped to be knowledgeable about typical British names, though it has been a difficult task when it comes to reading names of people from other nations."
Early in March 1879, the Rev. Francis Smith went on eight and a half months' leave, leaving St John's in the care of the Rev. Francis Samuel P. Pyemont, acting chaplain.
