John Gilbert Talbot

  General Notes:

As a Conservative poliitician he entered Parliament at the 1868 general election for Kent West, a seat he held until 1878, when he resigned to fight a by-election in the Oxford University constituency. He won the by-election, and held that seat until he stepped down at the January 1910 general election. He served under Benjamin Disraeli as Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade from 1878 to 1880 and was sworn of the Privy Council in 1897.

• Occupation: Member of Partliament & Justice of the Peace, at the time of the census in April 1881. ³ He was then living at 10 St George Street, Westminster, London with his wife and eight children, They employed 11 servants.

• Probate: by George John Talbot K.C, 31 Mar 1910, London Probate Registry. ² His estate was valued at £30,665 14s 7d.

John married Meriel Sarah Lyttelton, daughter of George William Lyttelton and Mary Glynne, Q3 1860 in Westminster (St Margaret) Registration District. (Meriel Sarah Lyttelton was born circa 1841 in St George, Hanover Square, Westminster ⁴ and died on 22 Apr 1925 in Sevenoaks Registration District, Kent ^{2 5}.)
