  Noted events in his life were:

• Occupation: framework knitter, by 1811 and to about 1825, Nottingham. ⁴⁸⁹ During this time, he and his wife and children lived at Turncalf Alley and Wooley's Yard and Buildings, Nottingham.

• Occupation: lacemaker, by 1826, Lenton, Notts. ⁴⁹⁰

• Occupation: publican, at the time of the census in June 1841. ⁴⁹¹ He was by then operating a public house at Market Street, Nottingham with his wife and six children.

• Occupation: victualler, at the time of the census in March 1851. ⁴⁹² He was by then a widower, living at 11 Market Street, Nottingham with two daughters and two servants.

• Residence: 4 Arboretum Terrace, Nottingham, by the time of the census in April 1871. ⁴⁹³ He was then described as a Gentleman and was lodging in an apartment house.

John married Sarah Tutin on 27 Dec 1810 in Nottingham (St Marys).²⁹ (Sarah Tutin was born circa 1791 in Notts ⁸⁵ and was buried on 23 Mar 1843 in Nottingham (St Peters) ⁸⁶.)
