On the staff of the M.S & L Railway. Was apprenticed to the manager of the engineering department, then went to Canada with his father-in-law and family. He returned to Sheffield and commenced business as a mechanical engineer. Tookover the family Estate Agency after his brother Harry left for California. Married twice, with no children

• Occupation: accountant's managing clerk, by the time of the census in April 1881. ³⁵⁰ He was then living with his wife at 82 Lower Chippinghouse Rd, Ecclesall Bierlow, Yorks

• Occupation: corresponding clerk for a railway company, at the time of the census in April 1871. ³⁴³ He was then living with his parents and four siblings at Manor Cottage, Sheffield.

William married Elizabeth. (Elizabeth was born circa 1856 in Sheffield ³⁵⁰.)
