bullet  General Notes:

bullet  Noted events in his life were:

• Education: Oxford University where he graduated Master of Arts. 10

• Occupation: Curate of Breaston, Derbyshire, by the time of the census in March 1851. 11 At that time he and his wife were living with his parents at 3 York Buildings, Hastings, Sussex. This was just over a week after their second marriage ceromony in Norfolk.

• Residence: Church Street, Beeston, Notts, by the time of the census in April 1861. 12 He was then living with his wife, six children and three servants.

• Land, by 1871, Beeston, Notts. 13 This consisted of 111acres 1r 12 p and was Church land which he held as Vicar. Of this total, just over 35 acres was ancient glebe land and just over 75 acres was land allocated to the then Vicar in lieu of tithes (of wool, lamb, crofts, Easter offerings, fees on the death of a head of family and Lammas dues) at the time of the Enclosure in 1809. The value of the land was estimated at £304 6s in 1871 - an amount that would have supported the living well.

• Residence: Church Street, Beeston, Notts, at the time of the census in April 1871. 14 He was then living with his wife, five children and two servants.

• Residence: 12 Langham Gardens, Folkestone, Kent, at the time of the census in April 1881. 15 He was then boarding at this address with his wife.

• Probate, 25 Jul 1885, Nottingham. 16 His estate was valued at £959 1s 3d. His widow, Maria Elizabeth Ildrini, was his sole executrix.

Thomas next married Maria Elizabeth Drage, daughter of John Drage and Elizabeth Thompson, on 21 Mar 1851 in E Rudham Parish Church (St Mary) Norfolk.3 25 (Maria Elizabeth Drage was born circa 1824 in London, St Giles Registation District 17 18 19 20 21, baptised on 15 May 1825 in Finsbury, St Luke's, Old St, London,22 died on 6 Feb 1903 in Basford Registration District, Notts/Derbys 23 24 and was buried in Beeston Parish Churchyard, Notts.)

bullet  Marriage Notes:

There is a mystery concerning the couple's second marriage as they had already married two years previously at St James, Paddington, London, on 8 December, 1849. It may be that they had two ceremonies, one in London with his family and the other at East Rudham with the bride's family. Their first known children, apparently twins, Frederick John and Jessie Elizabeth were baptised in December, 1851 at Breaston, Derbyshire where Thomas was a Parish priest.
