• Occupation: draper, at the time of the census in March 1851. 288 He and a brother and sister were apparently assisting their father in the business on Long Row where they were still living at home.
• Residence: Hampdon Street, Nottingham, by the time of the census in April 1861. 289 He was then living with his wife (who he had married three months earlier) and a servant. He continued to be occupied as a draper. Based on their children's baptism records, the family continued to live at this address until about 1865.
• Residence: Lenton Road, The Park, Nottingham, from about 1865. 290 At the time of the 1871 census, he was living there with his wife, six children and two servants. All their children's baptism records from 1865 onwards give "The Park" as their abode.
James married Emma Anne Hubbart, daughter of Living and Living, on 5 Jan 1861 in Nottingham (St Marys).29 (Emma Anne Hubbart was born circa 1836 in Nottingham 291,292 and was baptised on 21 Sep 1836 in Nottingham (St Marys) 293.)
