Charles Tompson
Noted events in his life were:
• Occupation: draper, at the time of the census in March 1851. 288 He and a brother and sister were apparently assisting their father in the business on Long Row where they were still living at home.
• Occupation: general draper employing three men, by the time of the census in April 1861. 302 It appears that by this date he had taken over responsibility for the Long Row business following the death of his father. His mother and sister Elizabeth as well as a niece (Jane M Robinson), an apprentice and a servant were also in the household.
• Occupation: draper, at the time of the census in April 1871. 303 He had by then, apparently assumed full responsibility for the Long Row business as he lived there, unmarried, with an assistant, an apprentice and a domestic servant.
