Joseph Foster Dobson

  Noted events in his life were:

• Occupation: Furniture Salesman, at the time of the census in April 1891. ³⁸ He was then living with his widowed father and five sibllings at 32 Waterloo Road, Nottingham.

• Occupation: furniture dealer (self employed), at the time of the census in March 1901. ⁵⁹ He was then livng at 2 Sophie Road, Hyson Green, Nottingham with his wife and three children.

• Residence: 2 Sophie Road, Nottingham, by 1902. ⁶⁰ He was then in partnership with brother Albert, trading as cabinet makers, undertakers and upholsterers, furniture dealers and parambucot manufacturer at 160-4 Alfreton Rd, Nottingham.

• Travel: to America without his family, on the Cedric to New York, May 1903. ⁶¹ He arrived from Liverpool on 17 May, en route to a friend, Mr Elliott of 2517 Lincoln Avenue, Denver, Colorado. He was in possession of $100 and declared that he would be staying in a hotel. He did return to England and, in 1910, emigrated with his family.

• Emigration: with his family on SS Haverford into Philadelphia, USA, 23 Mar 1910, Liverpool. ⁶² They arrived from Liverpool on 6 April, en route to a friend, Charles Smith of 495 W 12th St, Salt Lake City, Utah.

• Occupation: cabinet maker, on 30 Apr 1910, at the time of the US Federal Census. ⁶³ He was then living with his wife and three children in Salt Lake City, Utah

• Residence: 43 Rosella Street, Salt Lake City, Utah, 6 Nov 1910. ⁶⁴ This address was declared to the Immigration officials by his brother Albert when he arrived at New York at this time.

• Citizenship: American, 1919. ⁶⁵

• Occupation: railroad carpenter, at the time of the US Federal Census in January 1920. ⁶⁶ He was then living in rented property at North Grant Ave, Bannock County, Idaho with his wife.

Joseph married Alice Wild, daughter of Frank Wild and Eliza Wild, on 11 Jun 1891 in Basford, St Leodigarius.⁵² (Alice Wild was born circa 1870 in Attercliffe, Yorkshire ^{67,68,69,70,71,72}.)
